QPTS was commenced in September 2016, to provide care to rural patients, in their communities. General paediatric consultations are provided by Consultant paediatrician, Dr Michael Williams.

Dr Williams has been a paediatrician in Mackay Queensland for more than 30 years. He has visited health care sites throughout rural and regional Queensland and been involved in the development of telehealth for children in Queensland. He has published and spoken at many conferences about paediatric telehealth. He has been a member of many Qld Health and specialist committees, and is Associate Professor James Cook University and senior lecturer University of Queensland.

QPTS will provide consultation to patients and their families, who have been referred by their family doctor. Generally, this consultation will occur at the doctor’s practice to enable growth & BP measurements and other health checks where needed and involvement of the doctor and practice nurse in the planning of on-going care for the child. Consultation may be into the family home or another site when appropriate.

Where appropriate case conferencing via videoconference will occur with others involved in supporting the child eg therapists, teacher, guidance officer.

Urgent telehealth consultation for advice about acute problems in a child will be available when possible following phone contact from the family doctor to Dr Williams.
